The Results of College...

The researchers in the article about what college can buy are relaying that a vast percentage of the kids that enter college do not have the mental capacity to handle college. They say that college buys them the opportunity to show people that they are capable of learning.

This entire article is sort of bogus yet true at the same time. I agree with the researchers on a certain level. I believe a lot of students actually do "take away" from college. Unfortunately, it is sad to see that future employers only look at us as "well I suppose they went through the grinder so I suppose I could higher and re-train them." Thats life and I understand that. I also believe that college is nothing more than a "fundamentals" program as how the article states that "But for the past few years at least, the particular advantage of an American degree has been that it doesn’t qualify you to do anything in particular." I could not agree with the article more.

I believe this article is just a way of saying "experience is a better degree".

Hey Jonathan,

I have mixed feelings about this article but what is it that will get us the best jobs possible? Experience, the big degree, or both? I've heard so many people say that it's almost impossible to get a good paying teaching job without receiving a masters.

And just for kicks I'm going to share this with you:

I know this girl who is 28 and married now. She graduated from Harvard and has some big degree in whatever her field is. She was getting job opportunities left and right. What is she doing now? Working at a bead store.

So basically, going to college depends on the person and taking with them what they learned also depends on the person.

Yes, I agree with Kristen here. Jon, you make good points about college being a "basic skills' program. But as you also say, more Americans don't get even that.
